Transition from indoor gym to outdoor rock
Level 1 Rock prepares climbers for outdoor climbing. With basic indoor climbing skills, our guides will teach you the techniques to build top-rope anchors and climb outdoors.
This is a one day course typically held in the Squamish Smoke Bluffs. A perfect course for climbers ready to make the transition from gym climbing to outdoor climbing. Take Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 Rock sequentially and receive 10% off!
Itinerary
Courses are in Squamish from 8am - 4pm. Meet your Guide at Cloudburst Cafe in Squamish at 8am. Plan to be back at the cars by 4pm.

Pre-requisites
Ability to tie-in with a figure-8.
Experience top-rope belaying.
Can comfortably climb 5.7 indoors.
Waiver
You are required to read the VMG Waiver and agree to it’s terms and conditions prior to paying or signing. Your guide needs to see the emailed waiver verification before participating.
Goals
Safety systems and protocols, hazards at the crag, and risk management.
Review of top-rope belaying, knots, and tying-in.
Equipment strengths, forces on top-rope systems, proper use, and fit of equipment.
Learn top-rope anchors and assess integrity:
2 bolt anchors, trees
Safe communication and terminology.
Build and practice setting up top-rope systems.
Rappelling and using a prusik as a back-up.
Lead climbing theory and lead belaying, and trad anchors.
Next steps: discuss self-directed practice and Level 2 Rock.
Note: Goals are flexible and can be tailored for groups.
