Avalanche Skills!
Avalanche Skills Training 1 (AST 1) is the industry standard entry-level avalanche training course. VMG designed the AST 1 Whistler for skiers and boarders that want to use the convenience of the Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas to whisk them into the alpine.
This course teaches a basic understanding of five primary learning outcomes:
Avalanche formation and release
Recognizing avalanche terrain
Plan and execute a backcountry trip
Travel techniques and group management
Demonstrate a transceiver rescue
This course is essential for anyone that wants to travel in the winter backcountry.
Upon completion of this course, you will receive an official Avalanche Canada AST 1 Certificate. This certificate is a prerequisite for all higher level courses. Receive 10% off Intro BC Skiing by booking both courses with VMG.
